“Now he uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume.” --- 2 Corinthians 2:14b NLT
Have you ever noticed that people and houses have their own personal scent? Sometimes a person’s scent is so strong, you can walk into a room and your nose will tell you they are there, before your eyes do. My grandma has a specific fragrance. After I spend time with her, I love catching a whiff of her smell. It reminds me that I’ve been in her presence and of the sweet conversations that we’ve had. In a similar way, I desire to smell like Jesus. I want my time with him to be evident, not because I tell people that I’ve been with him, but because in proximity, he has rubbed off on me. As a result, my words and actions smell like him.
People who spend time with Jesus, smell sweet to me. Even now, I can list people in my mind who smell like him. And I desire to be by those people because their scent draws me in. When I witness their trust and hope in the Lord, it is sweet, and I find myself recalling my own intimate moments with the Lord. God uses our words and actions to tell his story. As Christians, we have the opportunity to share the sweet perfume of Jesus. The way you act and speak has a fragrance.
If you follow Jesus, do you smell like him? Does your life put off a sweet fragrance that betrays the time you’ve spent with the Lord? Or do you smell musty and old because you haven’t taken time to sit with him?
