IMPERFECT #4
“Children and the Kingdom of Heaven”
Matthew 19:13-15 & 18:1-4 / February 24, 2019
Mike Baker (Normal & Online Campuses)

LET THE LITTLE CHILDREN COME (Matthew 19:13-15, Mark 10:13-16, Luke 18:15-17)
  • Bring them, don’t hinder them (Caution: Matthew 18:5&6,10,14)
  • Touch, bless, and pray for them (Mark 10:16)
LET THE KINGDOM DISCIPLES BECOME (Matthew 18:1-4, Mark 9:33-37, Luke 9:46-48)
  • Turn from the wrong question (Mt. 18:1, Caution: 18:3a, Mk. 9:34, Lk. 9:36)
  • Whoever humbles himself (Matthew 5:19, 23:11; Luke 22:26)

IMPERFECT #4
“Keeping Children from Jesus”
Matthew 19:13-15 & 18:1-4 / February 24, 2019
J.K. Jones (Bloomington Campus)

What comes to mind when you hear the word “children?”

They are a big deal in Matthew’s Gospel.

In an attempt to keep the structure child-like, let me talk about context, a word, and some child-like questions.

Context
  • 3-plus years of ministry...
  • 4th major teaching discourse...
  • Peter’s imperfection...
  • Kingdom of Heaven conversation...
One Word
  • “Hinder” - 19:14
  • Consider Mark 9:38-39, Luke 6:29, Acts 8:36, 16:6 & 2 Peter 2:16.
  • What would cause the 12 to say, “Get the kids out of here?”
  • Why does this matter so much?
Some Child-like Questions
  • Who, what, where, when, how, and why?
  • “Why” is the mega-question?
Big Idea: The total dependency of kids is the perfect picture for real discipleship.
