Again, this sermon will deal with a broadly misunderstood view of biblical marriage. Specifically, in this passage, the wives are encouraged to subject to their own husbands as an example of the service and beauty of Sara. Husbands are told to be understanding and show honor to the wife which is in line with (if not as strongly) Paul’s teaching about husbands loving their wives as Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:23ff). In Christ, there is no relationship between husband and wife (or dating, or friendship for that matter) where one must not be subject to the other.
