The Trees Sing
Sing, O heavens, for the Lord has done it; shout, O depths of the earth; break forth into singing, O mountains, O forest, and every tree in it! For the Lord has redeemed Jacob, and will be glorified in Israel. -- Isaiah 44:23
Last week I had the pleasure of spending a day at Little Galilee Camp in Clinton. It was a day of retreat; sitting in the presence of the Lord and listening. I took my hammock out to the woods and spent a few hours alone. I sat there and I was overwhelmed by the wind in the trees. As my hammock gently swung, I marveled at the sound of the wind. I laid back and watched the tops of the trees move and heard their branches come together. And all of a sudden it hit me. The trees were singing and dancing. I immediately thought of the speaking trees in “Lord of the Rings.” I wondered if the trees I was sitting under could speak, what would they be saying? And then the Lord directed me to read in Isaiah and I came across the verse above. The whole earth sings to the Lord. He is the giver of salvation and the forests, mountains, and trees know it. And so, they sing. The earth has knowledge of the Lord, of who he is and what he has done. Their knowledge informs their worship.
What do you know about the Lord? Do you know his salvation? If you do, will you join the trees and sing?
