She Stayed: Part 1
“And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day.” --- Luke 2:36-37 ESV
In my personal time with the Lord, I have been constantly drawn back to one word, stay. This has happened in my prayers and now, even in my Bible reading. As I read through the first few chapters of Luke, this woman stood out to me. To help process through what I was learning, I started to journal my thoughts and before I knew it, the words, “She stayed.” were on the page. We don’t know much about Anna, but we know that she was a prophetess, a widow, older, and constantly in the temple worshiping, fasting, and praying.
As I processed through what her story might have looked like, I realized that she didn’t have an easy life. She lost her husband when she was young and yet, instead of seeking provision from another husband; she sought the Lord. She went to his temple and spent time with him. She did not depart … she stayed.
Anna’s consistency with the Lord has greatly challenged me. In this season of my life, God has graciously shown me my unfaithfulness in seeking and staying with him. I have more excuses than I care to give, but the desire of my heart is to be with the Lord. To seek him out and stay with him.
This week, will you evaluate your consistency with the Lord? Instead of seeking other things, will you choose to stay with the Lord instead?
