Never Give Up

Date: August 5, 2019

Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not!  So, if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him. Matthew 7:7-11 NLT

The most powerful thing that a Christian can do is to pray. Yet often, prayer is our last resort. We have exhausted all other possibilities or options within our control so we finally ask God for help. I just returned from a mission trip in New York City. Four years ago I met a man, Charles, who had been homeless for over thirty years. This year I was able to connect with him again – today he is working at the homeless shelter and helped us get someone else we met off the streets! A friend asked me what changed for Charles and I replied, I don’t know, but I do know that his mother prayed for him every day.

I can’t imagine praying the same prayer for thirty years. As a mother, knowing that my son is living on the streets as a drug addict and beggar – knowing every penny given was going towards more crack/cocaine. But this mother never gave up hope for her son.

May the Holy Spirit allow us to be bold and faithful in our consistent prayers and never give up!
