“Praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word. Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts, you servants who do his will. Praise the Lord, all his works everywhere in his dominion. Praise the Lord, O my soul.” Psalm 103:20-22 (NIV)
I’ll admit to you that as a kid when I thought about heaven and praising God forever and constantly, I thought that sounded boring. I like to sing and I like musical worship, but forever and ever?
I was young and immature. Still am in many ways.
Praise is so much more than singing. It’s joy. It’s hope. It’s appreciation. It’s surrender. It’s awe. Have you ever had an amazing experience that made you stop and think “Wow!”? Maybe you witnessed an amazing landscape or a gorgeous summer sunset. Maybe you teared up when you witnessed a great kindness extended to someone in need. Perhaps you heard a toddler giggle with joy and it made your heart leap in your chest.
In this Psalm, we’ve witnessed the goodness of God on display. Don’t our hearts burn with a longing when we witness something truly good, right, pure, or beautiful. I think that is praise. We may not only witness these things, but also be in on the action. These longings, these praise postures, can happen during work that is good, right, pure, and beautiful too.
So, we can truly praise him everywhere, always.
How will you notice yourself give him praise today?
