Salvation People #5 – Genesis 49:1-33 “Sons of Blessing”
Luke Brodeur (Worship Center 9:00, 11:00)

More than a List of Names
  • At Jacob’s Deathbed (Genesis 49:33)
  • A Band of Broken Brothers (Genesis Chapters 30-47)
  • Looking to their Father for Guidance
12 Individuals, Not 1 Group
  • Judah (49:8-12) and Joseph (49:22-26) Represent Greatness
  • Reuben, Simeon and Levi (49:3-7) Represent Disappointment
  • 3 Keys: 1) These really were blessing. (49:28); 2) Talking about the past and the future; 3) We are represented by these brothers.
Being Better vs. Being Blessed
  • “(Our Father) has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens” (Ephesians 1:3)
  • Are you trying to appease God by being better?
  • Look to your Father. Receive His blessing.

J.K. Jones (Sanctuary 9:00, 5:00)

Last words fascinate me…these are Jacob’s.

#1. Non-blessing of Jacob to Reuben: “I will not bless sexual recklessness” (49:3-4).
  • Neither does God.
#2. Non-blessing of Jacob to Simeon and Levi: “I will not bless vengeful violence” (49:5-7).
  • Neither does God.
  • Words to Levi & Simeon…
#3 Blessing of Jacob to Judah: “I will bless a repentant heart” (49:8-12).
  • This is for all the brothers!!!
  • So does God.
#4. Blessing of Jacob to the other eight brothers: “I will bless a faithful life” (49:13-27).
  • So does God.
  • 4 sets of brothers…
Our words matter, especially the blessing kind, whether last ones or not.
All real blessings point to Jesus…
I don’t know what my last words will be…
