Elder Update May 26, 2023

May 26, 2023

The Wagenmaker and Oberly (W&O) team completed over 50 interviews during the investigation phase. Each interview was conducted independently without the involvement or influence of Eastview or its leaders. Interviews were conducted in person, via video conference, or via phone call depending on the preference of the interviewees. W&O utilized a trauma informed approach during the investigation, maintaining confidentiality and objectivity throughout the process.

As we said previously, we understand the anticipation surrounding the report’s release, and W&O is in the final stages of preparation. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this crucial phase. After much counsel, the elders have decided not to receive the report before anyone else does. This is another measure we are taking to honor the transparency of the investigative process and eliminate potential concern that the elders could somehow revise or edit the report before it is published. We will access the report at the same time as our church family and the public.

By Friday, June 2nd, we plan to provide details about how the report will be released including the date and time. We will also share details about how the elders and staff plan to create intentional opportunities for processing, sharing, and eventually healing and restoration to take place. For those interested in the details of the release and follow up plans, please check back here on June 2nd.

In the meantime, the elders continue to pray for wisdom and the Holy Spirit’s leading in discerning the path toward healing for all involved in this difficult journey. We are praying for the truth to be revealed, and we will trust God’s provision and faithfulness for the outcome.
