Elder Update June 9, 2023

Jun 09, 2023

The elders want to thank everyone on the Eastview staff, our volunteer leaders, our volunteers, and everyone in our church family for participating in the many meetings that were scheduled this past week. We are grateful that our church has had the opportunity to hear directly from Kellye Fabian Story regarding Wagenmaker & Oberly’s investigative process, the contents of the report, and W&O’s recommendations for corrective actions. The ELT is taking each recommendation very seriously, and we welcome W&O’s ongoing engagement to address each one. There is much to be done, and we will not pursue this work in isolation....

Today is a very important day for our church. Over the past three months, considerable work has been done to understand and document the circumstances and decisions that have brought us to this point.

With a posture of transparency, we have participated in the investigation by providing documents that we became aware of, providing lists of witnesses, and submitting to interviews ourselves. That same afternoon, the elders will meet for prayer and will hear a verbal overview of the report’s findings from Kellye Story. As we shared last Friday, the...

The Wagenmaker and Oberly (W&O) team completed over 50 interviews during the investigation phase. Each interview was conducted independently without the involvement or influence of Eastview or its leaders. Interviews were conducted in person, via video conference, or via phone call depending on the preference of the interviewees. W&O utilized a trauma informed approach during the investigation, maintaining confidentiality and objectivity throughout the process.

As we said previously, we understand the anticipation surrounding the report’s release, and W&O is in the final stages of preparation. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this crucial phase. After much counsel, the elders have...

Wagenmaker and Oberly’s independent investigation phase has been completed; the firm continues to compile the information received and has begun drafting the report.

We recognize the importance of providing our community with an objective, candid assessment of past events, and the completion of W&O’s investigation marks a significant milestone in our commitment to transparency and accountability. Though we, like our Eastview family, understand the eagerness to receive the final report, W&O’s compilation/drafting phase will take some time to ensure the report is as comprehensive and well-documented as possible to properly address the full scope of the investigation.

We would like to express...
